In Los Angeles, entertainment companies are often built on relationships, creative partnerships, and behind-the-scenes investment deals that rarely become public. A newly filed lawsuit in California is now bringing one of those disputes into the open, with Artists for Artists DE LLC, the production company co-founded by actor and comedian Kenan Thompson, named in a civil complaint involving investment money, financial records, and project revenue.
The lawsuit was filed in the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles by Shwin Productions LLC against Artists for Artists DE LLC and John Ryan Jr. According to the complaint, Shwin Productions says it entered into a binding agreement with Artists for Artists in August 2025 and later invested more than $583,000 into the company. The filing claims that the investment came with expectations around financial access, including company records, accounting information, project reporting, and revenue details tied to the business relationship.

The filing claims that the investment came with expectations around financial access, including company records, accounting information, project reporting, and revenue details tied to the business relationship.
The filing also points to Good Sports, a television project named in the complaint. Shwin Productions alleges that Artists for Artists generated revenue from projects developed during the investment period, including Good Sports, but did not distribute revenue shares that Shwin Productions claims were required under the agreement. According to the complaint, Shwin Productions estimates that at least $240,000 may be owed in connection with Good Sports, while also saying the full amount cannot be known without a complete accounting of company records.
The lawsuit also reaches into the relationship-driven world of Los Angeles entertainment financing. Shwin Productions alleges that statements made during disputes over financial records harmed potential business opportunities involving people and ventures connected to Range Media Partners, along with other entertainment industry projects. In an industry where access, reputation, and investor confidence can shape future deals, those allegations form a major part of the complaint.
The complaint lists claims for breach of contract, accounting, breach of the implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing, defamation, and intentional interference with prospective economic advantage. Shwin Productions is asking the court for damages, recovery of allegedly unpaid revenue shares, a court ordered accounting, and other relief.
The case was filed under Case No. 26VECV03619 in the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles.
The allegations in the complaint are claims made by Shwin Productions. The defendants have not yet filed a response in court, and no court has ruled on the merits of the claims.
